Mid century inspired coffee table with an inset lift up tray table. Made from walnut ply with hard maple accents, this one was pretty challenging and a lot of it’s features were born out of circumstances that presented themselves during the build. One of my favorite features is the integrated handle, which wasn’t part of the initial design.
Before these pictures, I had made another version where the placement of the handle and shape just weren’t ergonomic and I ended up scrapping that entire carcass about two weeks before my deadline. Fast forward to several sleepless nights later, I had a better version that evolved into its own design far beyond the initial sketchup model.
